Rolls, sucha as work roll, back up roll, skin pass roll etc, are tools that produce plastic deformation of metal during rolling, and are important consumable parts that determine the efficiency and quality of rolling mills. Rollers are important components on steel rolling machines in steel mills, and use the pressure generated by a pair or a group of roll to roll steel. They mainly bear the dynamic and static loads during rolling, as well as the effects of wear and temperature changes.

There are two types of roll that we commonly use, cold rolling roll and hot rolling roll.

The materials used for cold rolling roll include many different types, such as 9Cr, 9Cr2, 9Crv, and 8CrMoV. There are two requirements for this type of roll:

  1. 1.The surface of the roll must be hardened.

  2. 2.The surface hardness of the roll must be between HS45-105.

The materials used for hot rolling roll are generally 60CrMnMo, 55Mn2, etc. This type of roll is widely used in processing such as section steel, bar, threaded steel, high wire, seamless steel pipe, and billet, etc. It withstands powerful rolling forces, severe wear and thermal fatigue effects, and works at high temperatures. It allows for diameter wear within a unit workload, so surface hardness is not required. Instead, it requires high strength, toughness, and heat resistance. Hot rolling roll are only subjected to overall normalizing or quenching, with a surface hardness requirement of HB190-270.
